The first post of this blog

For all students, welcome to Mr Toh's Geometry blog, where everything regarding the mathematical topic of geometry is discussed. Please feel free to look at the various links and pictures that I have posted. And of course, do leave any comments on anything. Just remember the 3 basic rules of blog comment:
1) No vulgarities (i.e. think before you type)
2) Leave useful comments
3) Leave your name and class

Term 3 Week 4 Problem (Hint)

In case anyone of you have any problems with the problem given this week, I will be giving hints along the way: Here is the first one...

Hint 1: Pick one of the cross-sections - perhaps the rectangle. For this challenge, why does it help to think about the cross-section and not at all about how long the gutter might be?

Hope the above helps!

Term 3 Week 4 Problem (Question)

Well students, here's your first problem.

Please think through the problem and enter your answer via the comments section (Just click on the comments button below).

There is no limit as to the number of times that you can answer each problem, but please take note of the following rules for comments:

1) Watch what you type into comments (No unrelated comments and No vulgarities),

2) Do leave your name & class for each of your comments (i.e. name_sec3X). This is to enable me to take note of who's who in the math blog.

This weeks' problem is related to finding area and perimeter...if you are ready, here's the problem:

A plastic gutter is designed to catch water at the edge of a roof.
Manufacturers need to minimise the amount of material used to make their product. What is the best cross-section for a gutter? Give reasons to support your suggestion.
